HomeEnergyCost

Home energy calculators

Each of these starts with your ZIP code and uses the current energy prices for your state, so you are not asked for numbers you would have to look up on a bill.

Heat pump vs furnace

Compares running costs at your state's gas and electricity prices, and works out how long the extra install cost takes to come back. In states with cheap gas the honest answer is that it does not.

AC replacement cost

What size unit your home needs, what installing it should cost, and whether paying more for a higher SEER2 rating earns that money back where you live.

Solar payback

Production modelled by NREL for your coordinates, priced against your local rate over twenty-five years — including what your utility actually credits you for power you export.

Just want the prices?

Every figure these calculators use is published on the energy rates by state pages. Nothing is hidden behind a form.

What they cannot tell you

None of these can see your insulation, your ductwork, your roof, or what a contractor in your town charges in August. They are built to tell you whether something is worth pursuing and to give you a figure to hold a quote against — not to replace the quote.
